Arranged marriages happen all over the world, so they’re not particularly unique to China. However, the way they are conducted in China is quite unique. It’s not uncommon to see parents sitting in a park holding “resumes” that list their children’s income, age, and other details. Other parents can then browse these descriptions to find potential matches. It’s somewhat like a real-life Tinder app.

These events have become so popular that people refer to them as “marriage markets,” and we have to admit, the term has a certain ring to it.
