In 2011, a prop from a 1960s John Wayne movie fetched nearly $200,000 at auction. The Green Berets was a war epic, starring Wayne as Colonel Mike Kirby. The 1968 film made $32 million at the box office, which, in today’s money, is the equivalent of $246.02 million.

The Green Berets marked a change of pace for the actor, who was primarily known for his Westerns. A Green Beret hat that Wayne wore in the film was one of 700 items of the actor’s to be auctioned off. The auction made $5.2 million in total, part of which went to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.
