Tyler Durden’s red, rust-colored jacket was a classic staple of the gritty, violent drama Fight Club. The director of the film had Durden wearing a red jacket because the color red symbolized strong emotions like urgency, passion, and power. These three elements were missing in the film’s narrator’s life, and he envisioned Durden as having everything that he lacked.
The red jacket was slim-fitted and hip-length, and it came straight out of Brad Pitt’s Durden wardrobe, which was somewhat of a mishmash of the 1970s and boho stylistic choices. The jacket was custom-made for the film, with intentional distress (chipping, staining, and cracking) made by producers before shooting started.
